One Article to Tell You What is Thermal Activation Generator

May 17, 2024

The thermal activation generator is a fire system accessory used to independently detect and activate the fire suppression system.

Many people, including professional engineering installers, don’t know how to install and use it, so let’s cover it in detail.

Basis Description and Definition

The activation generator is also named a “thermal activation device”.

It is a unique small power generator that detects fires employing a temperature-sensing element mounted on top and then generates an electric current by the principle of electromagnetic induction, which activates the fire extinguishing system.

In practice, it is generally used to activate fire extinguishing systems with low current requirements, e.g. aerosol fire extinguishers and ultrafine dry powder fire extinguishing devices.

Structure

This product has a simple structure and mainly consists of the following constituent elements:

  • C’ Clip – Heat-sensitive metal alloy, It is a thermal sensing element that can adjust the temperature, and the sensing temperature can be adjusted according to actual needs.
    The universal induction temperatures are 45 ℃, 72 ℃, 93 ℃, and 110 ℃.
  • The body, which is made up of power-generating elements and the ABS shell, The metal and electrical components inside generate current through the principle of electromagnetic reaction.
  • Base – The base position has screw holes to install this device.
  • Safety Pin – In debugging, installation, and transportation, safety pins are required to prevent improper operation.
  • Junction Box – For better wiring and improved product aesthetics.
  • Other – Circuit boards, coils, etc.

The above elements and components are the main components of this device, simple but with a reasonable layout.

Working Principle

When the thermal element reaches the rated temperature value, the spring loading rod installed inside the subject is released.

The spring moves a cylindrical shaped magnet, mounted at the other end of the rod, through an induction coil.

The induction coil generates an electrical pulse, which is then transmitted to the fire-extinguishing device connected to it.

After receiving the current, the fire extinguishing device will automatically start.

Remark: The product has an O-shaped pull ring, and the manual pull ring is used to ensure safety and facilitate manual operation.

Features and Function

This product is a popular firefighting accessory because it has a great auxiliary effect on the firefighting system. Of course, it also has the following Features and functions:

  • It has a fixed rated temperature and an independent detector. The detection components are made of special alloy materials.
  • In addition to conventional temperatures, the sensing temperature of thermal sensors can be customized.
  • The product comes with a relay and has a signal feedback function.
  • When equipped with a junction box, this product can be used in hazardous areas.
  • The design purpose of this product is specifically to activate fire extinguishers, allowing them to start independently without relying on external power sources.
  • Using the principle of electromagnetic induction, the product transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy.
  • The product meets the product launch requirements for special application scenarios.
  • The internal core components of the product are made of 304 stainless steel and copper materials, and the external shell is made of ABS high-temperature resistant material.
